Coffee prices today, July 23, 2022, in the world and domestic markets continued to decline. Currently, domestic coffee prices decreased slightly by 300 VND/kg, to 42,000 – 42,500 VND/kg. In the world market, coffee prices today had another decrease on 2 major trading floors. At the end of the most recent trading session, Robusta coffee prices on the London floor for September 2022 delivery decreased by 25 USD/ton to 1,962 USD/ton, and for November 2022 delivery decreased by 24 USD/ton to 1,960 USD/ton. Meanwhile, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor for September 2022 delivery decreased by 9.15 cents/lb, to 206.7 cents/lb, and for December 2022 delivery decreased by 9.10 cents/lb, to 202.65 cents/lb. The world coffee market has a second consecutive decline as it is being negatively affected by concerns that the Fed and central banks will continue to raise interest rates, and the USD has cooled down somewhat but not significantly. The European Central Bank (ECB)’s first 0.5% interest rate increase in 11 years is considered by the market to be “somewhat neutral and not much of an impact”. The USDX adjustment has supported emerging currencies to gain more strength. Speculative capital flows back to stocks. The USD exchange rate increased by 0.64% against the Reais, up to 1 USD = 5.4950 R$, which will encourage the Monetary Committee (Copom – Brasil) to be strong in operating the base interest rate of the Reais in the upcoming policy meeting. Coffee futures prices on both exchanges weakened due to the absence of investors in a dull trading session with low volume. The fall of the Real to a near six-month low has encouraged Brazilians to boost coffee sales.
