Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor decreased by 5.85 cents/lb, at 232.4 cents/lb, and for September 2022 delivery decreased by 5.7 cents/lb, at 232.55 cents/lb. While coffee prices on the London floor remained unchanged due to the holiday (4 consecutive days off), coffee prices on the New York floor continued to decline for the second consecutive session. Arabica coffee prices fell slightly as investors booked short-term profits, after prices rose to a 13-week high on concerns about adverse weather in Brazil’s main coffee growing regions, experts said. OPEC and its Russia-led allies, known as OPEC+, recently decided to increase production by 648,000 barrels per day as agreed at a meeting last July. The increase in oil production will help ease the cost of transporting goods, and help push back global inflation. This has caused emerging currencies to continuously lose value, forcing the world’s main producer, Brazil, to continue to aggressively sell coffee when they are profitable. As for Robusta coffee, the pressure to sell the new crop being harvested from the main coffee producing countries remains. The fact that the London floor is temporarily closed for the holidays has also caused the domestic coffee market to remain flat. In the current situation, consumers tend to cut spending. Because of the high inflation and economic difficulties, the demand for coffee may decrease in the short term. The decrease in demand and the increase in supply may cause the price of coffee to decrease in the last months of the year.
