In an effort to develop organic agriculture (AG), the Bac Lieu Agriculture sector has been actively implementing two groups of organic production models such as implementing the model “Building community organizations through cooperative groups (THT), cooperatives (HTX) for smart organic rice farming, applying mechanization, adapting to climate change, associated with product consumption linkage” on an area of ​​300 hectares (using certified rice varieties, adding organic fertilizers, microorganisms…). The profit from the model is 20.3 – 22.4 million VND/ha higher than conventional farming. The advantage of this farming method is that it helps farmers reduce investment costs, reduce the amount of seeds to sow, reduce the amount of fertilizers and chemical pesticides, prioritize the use of microbial pesticides, which has contributed to limiting environmental pollution and improving the quality of rice. The effectiveness of this model has helped farmers reduce the amount of seeds to sow, reduce the amount of inorganic fertilizers by 10-15% and spray pesticides twice per rice crop. It is encouraging that the profit increased by over 190 million VND/ha and the output products were purchased by traders at high prices. Overall, the development of organic agriculture in the province still needs to be focused on and promoted further.
